Masterclass in Oral Pathology

Masterclass in Oral Pathology
This lecture is designed for Dentists, Oral Health Therapists, Dental Therapists and Hygienists.

COURSE OVERVIEW

Dental practitioners are at a prime position to examine the oral, head and neck structures, and therefore play an integral role in identifying clinical oral pathology. Further to this, dental practitioners are responsible for ensuring these patients are managed appropriately, with follow-up and referral to an appropriate specialist where indicated.

This Masterclass in Oral Medicine is a full-day event that will be divided into two modules:

  1. Morning session:
Didactic learning with presentations from three highly experienced Oral Medicine Specialists, covering a range of topics in clinical Oral Medicine.
  2. Afternoon session:
Attendees will be allocated into smaller groups and participate in interactive cased-based discussions with the Oral Medicine Specialists. This enhances application of knowledge and skills by simulating clinical scenarios.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:

  • Describe oral lesions and conditions accurately
  • Develop diagnostic skills in Oral Medicine and formulate appropriate differential diagnoses
  • Understand the role of a dental practitioner in managing a patient with clinical oral pathology, and enhance treatment planning skills (including when to refer)
  • Understand the importance of a good referral, and the details that should be included in an Oral Medicine referral
